The next generation of srRAW Cinema Camera for iPhone is now available.
Vienna, AUSTRIA, 31 July 2025: SWISS RIG announced today srRAW Cinema Camera 1.2, the next version of its RAW cinema camera and unique patent-pending capture engine for iPhone. Until today, every iOS filmmaker app uses the same video capture engine and destructive image processing pipeline. It’s the reason why, with the same settings, video shot from one app looks the same as video shot from any other iPhone video camera. srRAW’s manifesto is to build something entirely new: a cinema camera on the inside, an iPhone on the outside. The second capture engine in the history of iOS and the world’s only iPhone RAW cinema camera, srRAW is easy to use, accessible, powerful and teeny tiny: an 8mm thin marvel packed with 14-bits of “pixel shattering” dynamic range, a RAW cinematographic tool that not only can paint with light, but can actually fit in a pocket. srRAW locksteps with the motion picture capture standards of professional RAW hardware digital cinema cameras: no AI, no algorithms, no chroma subsampling, no noise reduction, no baked-in image processing, no exposure compensation.

“Without any artificial ingredients, srRAW is pure organic cinema for your ultimate creative expression. The only thing srRAW has been designed to bake into your exposures is absolute fidelity to, and precision in, your cinematographic vision. If cinema and grades live and die in the shadows, srRAW is the best mobile camera to bring them to life,” says Cortlan McManus, CEO of SWISS RIG.

Because srRAW’s custom capture engine natively encodes CinemaDNG files with zero image processing, zero noise reduction and unparallelled color science on a mobile device, filmmakers and creators of all skill levels now have access to unlimited post-production creative options in look design and color grading. srRAW has native “Plug n Grade” integration with DaVinci Resolve and any other tool that supports the open-source CinemaDNG or DNG formats.

"One of the really exciting things about srRAW is that because the noise is completely organic, and totally uncompressed — you can push and pull it and get results far more similar to using film, or shooting using uncompressed RAW on Magic Lantern. The sharpening, aliasing, extreme temporal noise reduction, motion and color artifacts are all gone, and what you’re left with really is just the purest version of your digital negative." Søren James, Filmmker, AFI Conservatory, Directing, 2024.

srRAW unlocks fully the iPhone’s potential to capture beautiful cinematography as the main cinema camera on indie, creator, documentary, stealth, music video, agency, event and student productions while its RAW bursts bring new creative options to photographers. srRAW also makes a powerful and nimble B-cam, cutting seamlessly with footage from professional cinema cameras. Cinematographer and colorist John Roque recently pared srRAW with a RED Komodo 6k and LUMIX S to enable shots not possible with fully rigged kits.

“For the first time ever, I’m grading iPhone footage like I would a RED or ARRI file,” says Roque. “I’m not fighting the image—I’m sculpting it. The shadows hold up, the highlights don’t clip harshly, and the color responds in a way that feels cinematic, not compressed. I can push the grade, isolate tones, and build a look without the footage falling apart. I thought having Apple Log was a game changer,” Roque continues, “but being able to shoot CinemaDNG on an iPhone – now that’s revolutionary.”
